The Macao Annual Art Exhibition is an important component of the Macao Arts Festival held every year by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government.
With “Art – Creativity Unbound” as its theme, the 2007 Macao Annual Art Exhibition aims to open up a new space for artistic creation and for the examination of Macao’s visual culture, thus broadening the experience of local artists.
Works selected for this year’s exhibition reflect a burgeoning cultural environment. Although in recent years some artists in Macao and neighbouring areas have abandoned their dreams in search of commercial benefits from their work, many Macao artists have retained a clear mind. They are like the lotus – the flower of Macao – fresh and refined, emerging from the mud to blossom into glory. Over the last seven years, these artists’ persistent pursuit of art has contributed towards safeguarding our spiritual homestead. This was our original intention in organizing the Macao Annual Art Exhibition.
As in previous years, this year’s Macao Annual Art Exhibition supports a dual strategy: popularization and enhancement. The exhibition provides a platform for local artists to display their talents, and also provides a forum for younger generations to learn about visual art. Art workshops will be held during the exhibition for university, secondary and primary school students with the intention of nurturing future talents.
The exhibition’s success is largely due to members of the local art community, as well as the support of various outstanding individuals in different countries and regions. Sincere thanks are due to this year’s judges – Miao Chong’an, Lin Jiayang, Bryn Campbell, Yu Zheng and Wang Chunjie – as well as to all the participants and coordinators.
