Despite being a small city, Macao has a rich historical and cultural atmosphere and has nurtured generations of artists. Macao art has become more abundant and diversified in recent years.

In order to further promote creative art in Macao and to provide local artists and art lovers with a platform to display their talents, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government has been including the Macao Annual Art Exhibition in the Macau Arts Festival since 2001. For ten consecutive years, the exhibition continues to sift through the old to bring forth the new, displaying Macao's most recent art achievements. Moreover, the exhibition has brought to light many new talents and works, enhancing the small city with poetic and artistic senses. The Tap Seac Gallery is like a farmland in cultivating visual art and has become an ideal place for "communication" between artists and appreciators.

The Macao Annual Art Exhibition is open to all contestants and the organizer emphasizes quality rather than quantity so as to advance the level of production and aesthetic quality. It is noticeable that many of the works represent a link between oriental and occidental thinking, concepts and techniques. This is a unique art characteristic which Macao people should appreciate.

The successful organization of this exhibition was made possible in large part by the participation of individuals from the local art community, as well as the support of several exceptional individuals in various different countries. We wish to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to this year's judges - Tian Sixing, Wang Shengli, Jia Xiangguo, Lu Jingren, Wang Chuan, Yu Jihan and Liu Rongyin as well as to all the participants and coordinators.
