No one could ever accuse Charles Ray of being impatient. It took more than four years and a complicated fabrication process for the artist to create his latest work, which debuted at Matthew Marks Gallery in Los Angeles this weekend [1/2 November] as part of his latest solo show “Charles Ray”, until 20 December. Baled Truck, 2014—a compressed version of Ray’s own Chevy pickup truck—was the first work Ray conceived in a series of representational stainless steel sculptures, but it was the final one to be completed, with the artist putting the final touches on the work days before the opening.
