Recalling the ancient Chinese literati Lin Xie’s admonition that ‘the ingenuity of thinking is the integration of spirit with substance,’ renowned Macau artist Lio Man Cheong’s paintings pulsate with heart-warming imagery and emotional depth. Whilst realistically depicted, his works also convey abstract concepts and a strong feeling of metaphor - perfectly encapsulating the concept of ‘spirit and substance.’ All pieces on display in this exhibition are recent works, including his oil paintings, watercolours, Chinese inks, acrylics and mixed media.
